How is my course certified?
Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) has been set up by the Department of Education and Science to nationally certify courses. Our centre runs QQI courses This guarantees that these programmes are planned and delivered to the highest standards. QQI certification is recognised nationally and internationally by employers and educational institutions.
The Quality and Qualifications Ireland mission is to make quality assured awards in accordance with national standards within the national framework, creating opportunities for all learners in further education and training to have their achievements recognized, and providing access to systematic progression pathways. QQI awards are placed within the National Framework of Qualifications.
This framework includes further and higher education and training awards. This will greatly extend opportunities for access, transfer and progression for all learners. There are 10 levels on the national framework, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. QQI offers programmes at levels 1 through to 10. QQI offers Major and Minor awards. Major awards are made up of a number of specified (8 or more) minor awards commonly known as component certificates or modules.
Each module can be taken separately or as part of an overall programme incorporating all the required modules for a major award. Learners receive a component certificate for each module they successfully complete. When a learner has successfully completed the required component certificates for a major award they automatically become eligible for the overall certificate.
Can I use my QQI Award to continue to Higher Education courses?
Yes. QQI courses have been placed within the new National Framework of Qualifications. The ten-level framework diagram illustrates the placement of awards within the framework of qualifications. There are approximately 40 Higher Education Institutions including Universities, Institutes of Technology and private colleges offering places on a variety of courses to QQI certificate holders. For further information visit Quality and Qualifications Ireland.
Intending applicants are advised at all times to confirm linked awards, any additional module requirements, application processes and scoring systems with the Admissions Offices of the participating Higher Education Institutions or visit the CAO website.
